The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group’s continuous implementation of search warrants against loose firearms resulted in the apprehension of an Abu Sayaff Group member in Barangay Tulungatung, Zamboanga City on May 25, 2023 (Thursday).

PBGEN ROMEO M CARAMAT JR. said that the Search Warrant was implemented by the operatives of CIDG Zamboanga CFU, CIDG RFU9, Sulu and Basilan PIT-RIU9, 55SAC, 5SAB PNP-SAF, 153SAC-FSB, ZCPS9 (Ayala), ZCPO, and NICA D6 against JURAHMAN KIRAH ABIRIN, a.k.a “DATS”, for violation of RA 10591, otherwise known as Illegal Possession of Firearm and Ammunition.

Seized during the police operation were the following pieces of evidence:

– One (1) Hand Grenade case;

– One (1) Hand Grenade (M67);

– One (1) Unit of Colt cal.45 Pistol with

defaced Serial Number;

– One (1) Magazine assembly of Cal. 45;


– 3 rounds of cal.45 live ammunition.

“Subject personality is allegedly involved in Gun for Hire activities in which he facilitated the planning and provided logistics used in the liquidation of Al-Barka Mayor Darussalam Lajid and Akbar Mayor Alih Salih in Baliwasan Seaside, Zamboanga City, on December 6, 2021,” added CIDG Director.

Furthermore, said ASG member is under the leadership of Radullan Sahiron. Abirin used to provide information to the group on the prospected target of Kidnapping for Ransom. Allegedly, he was also involved in the Sidapan Kidnapping on April 2000, the Kidnapping of Malaysian Couple Thien Nyuk Fun and Bernard Ted Fen in May 2015, and the kidnapping of the Jehovah’s Witness members in Patikul, Sulu province on August 20, 2002.

Likewise, the arrested suspect is allegedly involved in Illegal Drug Trafficking and Smuggling in ZAMBASULTA.

The arrested persons and the recovered evidence are now under the custody of the CIDG Zamboanga CFU for documentation and disposition while criminal complaints for violation of RA 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Law) and RA 9516 (Illegal Possession of Explosives) are being readied for filing against the suspect.
